When people think about Madagascar, the first picture in their mind may be from the animated film from Dreamworks. In reality, Madagascar is one of the largest island in the world with a population of nearly 22 million people. 90% of whom live on less than two dollars per day.
This photo was taken by Violin during her visit to a slum area in 2009. The children followed her with great curiosity and interest. They were probably seldom visited by foreigners. Prior to this trip, Violin almost never took any photos on her missionary trips. Since I could not go to Madagascar in 2009, I lent her my point-and-shoot camera. Honestly, I did not expect much. But as I was reviewing the photos that she took upon her return, I was genuinely surprised. From the photos, I could sense a special human connection between her and the people. Thus, this was how it all started: photos of humanity, photos for humanity.
