There was an unusual heavy rain when we arrived in Andhra Pradesh. On the second day, we headed out from Jangareddigudem (the place that we stayed in) to go to a senior's home about 45 minutes away by car. But due to the rain, we could not arrive to the destination because of major flooding at one point of the road. We were forced to turn back and took an alternate route. On our way back, flooding still occurred at certain low areas but they were not as serious as what we saw moments earlier.
What impressed us was seeing how the villagers at the farms took this opportunity to go fishing using just simple nets and collected their rewards in metal buckets. This scene illustrated how people from the villages could find food in their environments even during undesirable events like flooding. They did not waste a single day and could make use of every opportunity. Perhaps to them, such an event provided an unexpected source of entertainment: fishing in the water while enjoying the company of neighbours. Compared to those who dwell in cities, these villagers seemed much more compatible with their environments as a result of generations of accumulated experiences.
